The SAR Essentials for GEOINT focuses on teaching remote sensing specialists, geospatial engineers and defense intelligence analysts how to exploit Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data using automated, streamlined workflows within ENVI Software. The 6 modules represent scenarios in which students solve complex real-world geospatial problems and generate sophisticated, actionable intelligence products.
Core Components
- SAR Fundamentals: Teaches fundamental concepts of SAR systems and how to visually interpret SAR imagery.
- Target Tracking: Employing various techniques to detect and monitor moving objects. Using these techniques with SAR imagery can provide insight into patterns of life in an operational area.
- Change Detection: Exploring methods for detecting changes to the Earth’s surface over time using SAR imagery.
- 3D Modeling: Creating Digital Surface Models and calculating structure heights using radar layover artifacts.
- Maritime & Signatures: Automating ship detection from SAR imagery with optional AIS labelling.
Learning outcomes
After this course, you will be able to:
- Decode SAR imagery to open, display, and visually interpret complex satellite radar data.
- Track targets in motion and detect, animate, and calculate the speed and direction of vehicles and vessels.
- Apply advanced change detection techniques to reveal infrastructure activity and port traffic.
- Generate 3D products and terrain models including DSMs and precise object heights.
- Automate ship detection to find maritime targets and cross-reference them with AIS tracking data.
